3. Who to target: Define your ICP

The fastest way to kill your outreach results? Messaging the wrong people.

You could have the perfect script, perfect tool, perfect everything, but if you're targeting broke, unqualified, or uninterested leads, it won’t matter. So before you scrape a single profile, you need to get laser clear on who you’re trying to reach.

Step 1: Pick a Niche That Can Pay

Some niches just don’t have the money, urgency, or buying behavior for what you’re offering. Focus on audiences that:

  • Have a pain point you solve

  • Are actively trying to grow or scale

  • Have cash flow or recurring revenue

  • Often buy services like yours

Step 2: Write a One-Sentence Customer Profile

Try this fill-in-the-blank formula:

“I help [who] with [pain point] so they can [desired result].”

Examples:

  • I help realtors get buyer & seller leads through paid ads so they can close more deals.

  • I help agencies book more clients using custom, high-conversion landing pages

This helps you write better scripts, pick better scraping buckets, and actually sound relevant in the DMs.

TIP: Don't Be a Generalist

If your profile looks like you help everyone, no one will trust you. Outreach is all about context, and people trust messages that feel like they were meant for them.
