7. How to write DMs that get replies

You’ve got the list. Now it’s time to start the conversation.

This is where most people fumble—sending long, pitchy, or generic messages that get ignored (or worse, reported). The key to cold DMs in 2025 is being short, relevant, and curiosity-driven.

You’re not trying to sell in the first message. You’re trying to start a conversation.

The “ICE” Framework 🧊

Use this to structure your messages:

Icebreaker – Catch their attention

Context – Why you’re reaching out

Easy CTA – A frictionless next step that invites a reply

Example DMs (Using ICE)

Real Estate Agent Example:

Hey Sarah! Just came across your page, loving the listings you've been posting.

Quick q — are you taking on more buyer/seller leads rn?

✅ Icebreaker: Mention something relevant to them ✅ Context: You want to help them get leads ✅ Easy CTA: A casual yes/no question

Med Spa Example:

Hey! Just came across your profile, your before/after posts are awesome

Curious if you're currently booking any appointments rn?

Coach Example:

Yo, noticed you're helping business owners scale — love that.

Just curious, are you guys currently taking on more clients?

✅ What Makes a Good Opener?

  • Feels relevant to the recipient

  • Doesn't feel like a mass blast (even if it is)

  • Sparks curiosity or conversation

  • Clear, specific, and casual (not robotic)

  • Ends with a question, not a pitch

🚫 What to Avoid

  • ❌ “Hey, I help people scale their biz using AI automation for growth systems.” (Too buzzwordy, sounds fake if sent off the bat)

  • ❌ “Can I show you a quick demo?” (Too soon, let the conversation get there.)

  • ❌ “Hey! I think you’d be perfect for my offer…” (Too robotic and mass blast-y)

The DM isn’t the pitch. It’s the opener. Keep it casual, clear, and curiosity-driven, and let the convo do the work.
